Arif GÖRE, a contributor from Turkey, added Helm charts to Apache SeaTunnel(Incubating)
Apache SeaTunnel ushered in a contributor from abroad! Arif GÖRE is a university student from Istanbul/Turkey. He got to know Apache SeaTunnel and contribute because of a Helm chart for an open-source project for his internship.
I am Arif GÖRE, a university student from Istanbul/Turkey, and this is my fourth year in the computer engineering (a.k.a. computer science) department of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.
The thing I do most in my free time is to walk and think, I think we can count that as a hobby.

My contribution to Apache SeaTunnel
I added Helm charts for Apache SeaTunnel Flink and Apache SeaTunnel Spark. That made it quite easier to set up Apache SeaTunnel in a Kubernetes cluster.

Why do I make a contribution to Apache SeaTunnel? That’s because I needed to make a Helm chart for an open-source project for my internship. While I was searching in CNCF Landscape for a project that didn’t have a Helm chart, I saw Apache SeaTunnel. The community was active and had many contributors, so I thought it was a good option.
My view on open-source
I have had sympathy for free software and open source since my first year at university. My teacher Necdet YÜCEL was very effective at this. I love free/open source because of several reasons. A few most important of them;
- It doesn’t require users to trust any individual, small group, or company.
- It is progressive. Not everyone has to do the same things over and over. Take some existing project, improve them, and publish it.
- It is great learning material and a good starting point for inexperienced people like me. It’s better than starting new projects from scratch.
The Apache SeaTunnel community impressed me!
I simply liked it. Everyone I contacted so far was very kind and ready to help. This was my first time contributing to an open-source project. I experienced working with an international community. And thanks to this process, I feel more comfortable about getting involved in such groups.
With more and more contributors and users coming from abroad, Apache SeaTunnel is heading ahead to a broader international stage, welcoming more people interested in open-source joining and making Apache SeaTunnel greater together.
